2nd Grade's Literacy Life During the Week of 5-5-17
Helpful Reminders:
Why Read Every Day??
Decades of internationally based research shows that students who read more, read better. They develop more expansive vocabularies and achieve higher levels of reading and writing development.
Independent daily reading time is one of the best ways for you to:
- We took our unit 22 spelling test today. We only have 2 more lists!! YIKES, where has the year gone?
- Reading logs were due today. Next week will be our last digital one, then we will have a different style in paper for the last full week of school.
- Continued the use of our assignment notebooks. Take a look at these to see what is due that week, a few students are missing assignments each week.
- We wrote letters to veterans and we continued writing our nominations for books we have read.
- We discussed lots of books we have read as well as continued reading our series book outloud each day! We are on our 4th book.
- I know that our week can be very busy but if everyone can log onto Odyssey and practice at least 2/3 times next week for 20-30 minutes.
- Continued to work on our grammar components.
- We read our Scholastic News by ourselves today. Then we started the quiz on our own. A majority of the kids finished it however, I wanted them to take it home to check it over before I grade it. I know that these are tricky for some students. I am really trying to get them to go back into the text to find their answers or at least double check their answers by going back into the text. This is a skill that is done every week in my classroom, as well as on the computer tests we take, and in 3rd grade. On Monday, we will go over it together in class for any questions they might have. Then they will turn it in for a grade. Feel free to help them if they can not read the text or if they are unsure of the answers. It does say quiz on the paper that they are doing but I am putting it in as an assignment.
- I believe there is only one more Scholastic News for the year too. We never got one issue.
